This illustration was key to the development of the children's book it is a piece that I did in my senior year at BYU. In Don Seegmillers painting class I was given the instruction to illustrate the following fact, "An Ostriches brain is smaller than it's eye." In my mind if an ostrich indeed had a brain so small it really should go to school, this idea was so funny to me that I soon developed a short story to accompany it and thus "Teacher the New Kid Smells" was born.
