For my children's book Teacher the New Kid Smells I had to develop an Ostrich character. To get the right look and feel for the giant bird I went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park to sketch them from life paying careful attention to how they moved. From there I did a cartoon version of the character and worked out his expressions and movement.
